  1. Dr. Lewis treated me several times at NM. I always enjoyed our conversations while in his office. He did a great job—-always, and was kind and thoughtful. I am so sorry for your loss.

  2. Dr Lewis was a wonderful colleague and friend and it was a great great privilege to have known him and to have worked with him. His skills were outstanding and only exceeded by his humanity and dry humor. I remember fondly so many times “in the trenches” with him and knowing that he could always be counted on for superlative results.

  3. Doc was the best – every time I had a difficult case that needed extra hands, he was always there to help out. We all loved seeing him around the halls of NW

  4. Vic Lewis was a colleague and friend from our days at Northwestern. He was beloved as a teacher by both medical students and residents. Always willing to serve on committees or take on various tasks, he was cheerful, gracious, and generous. He took on cases that others rejected, without concern for socioeconomic status or compensation. He was always willing to see patients, even at the most inconvenient times. I will remember him as an exemplary physician and a wonderful human being. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

  5. Vic,
You were one of my main influences in medical school at Northwestern. You were my most influential and favorite attending as a plastic surgery fellow. You taught me to be compassionate to all patients, be kind to all colleagues and treat everyone with respect and kindness. You will be missed by me and all who knew you. Your legacy of decency and integrity will go on forever.

  6. Dr. Lewis was a legend — a wonderful teacher, physician to countless patients, and friend to staff and trainees alike. He treated everyone with tremendous respect. He simply loved what he did each and every day. My sincere condolences to his family.

  7. Vic Lewis was a wonderful man and an exemplary plastic surgeon. Generous with his time, always interested in the well-being of his patients and the residents he trained. He had a profound effect on my becoming a plastic surgeon and hence my life. I will always be in debt to him for his many kindnesses and his willingness to help me forge a path in plastic surgery. My deepest condolences to Jayne and “the boys”. May his memory be a blessing.

  8. Like so many others, my patients and I have benefited tremendously from his teaching, and the colorful way it was delivered. “You know what they say at The Charity…”.

  9. Vic for me was also a major influence as a medical student, a plastic surgery resident and a young man. Most of his effective teaching, as a surgeon or as a human being, was done by his doing rather than by his explaining. He was an easy and inspirational example to follow as a surgeon, an educator, a father, a humanist, a husband and as a good, humble man. He had a way of making one, no matter who you were, feel special, respected and valued. His patients were lucky to have him as their doctor. His sons were lucky to have such a man as a father. My condolences to Jayne and the boys and their families. Vic will be as missed as he was loved.

  10. I have so many Dr. Lewis stories, but my favorite was during my third year of residency. Dr. Lewis and I were doing a pressure sore reconstruction, and the surgical tech asked if she could adjust the lights. Dr. Lewis responded “No.” The tech asked why, and Dr. Lewis said “because then I can see what the resident is doing, and it will make me nervous.”

He was a tireless advocate for the residents, and there was nobody quite like him. The other residents and I owe him so much. We will remember him forever.

  11. I am one of the fortunate ones given the opportunity to learn from Dr Lewis during residency at Northwestern, and was likely one of that last young surgeons to get to know him well. I will always remember his poker-faced stare, sense of humor, dedication to his patients, and kind heart. He loved to remind me how much he hated my home town, Philly, but I realize now it was his way of connecting with me. He is already missed.

  12. Oh Dr. Lewis…I remember saying this to him
So many times during the 10 years I
Worked for him. We were a close family, not just a doctors office. He was a great man with the biggest heart. He took good care of his staff and we always took care of him by keeping the office stocked with Mayo and peanut butter. After a long day of surgery one of us would always catch him eating his peanut butter with graham crackers. I’m so sad to hear that he is gone and my heart goes out to his family. I will
Always be grateful that I knew him, worked
For him and had him as a part of my life.

  13. When my patients ask me why I chose a career in plastic surgery, I tell them how working with Dr. Lewis made me want to be a plastic surgeon. What a wonderful person. I keep his attitude in mind every time I see a patient.
I only wish I had the opportunity to tell him how he influenced my career choice and what it has meant to the many patients for whom I’ve cared for over the last 25 years.

  14. Northwestern University 1976 first rotation in surgery, spending two weeks in plastic surgery. We were called to the ER for an elderly lady who had fallen and torn off enough of her pretibial skin to require a graft. In the OR the next day, Dr. Lewis handed me the instruments, and I replied “But I’ve never done this before!” Well, duh. But he had enough presence to make me a part of the team, and I’ll never forget that. I still use some of his tricks for wound healing. I spend only a few hours with D. Vick, but I’ll never forget him.
